Flint Hills 1988 Landsat Image
Standard false-color composite image of central Flint Hills region, 13 Oct. 1988.
Landsat MSS bands 1, 2 and 4 color coded as blue, green, and red. This autumn scene
depicts active vegetation in red and pink, mainly in the river valleys. During the
drought of 1988, upland prairie grass became largely dormant--orange/green colors.
Note the linear patterns of valley entrenchment, both for larger rivers and smaller
tributary streams. Low sun angle and vegetation contrasts help to highlight drainage
patterns.
